Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra About
With its mission to make its high-quality symphonic concerts accessible to as many people in the community as possible, the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra's annual activities include its admission-free Summer Family Concert Series in Worcester's East and Institute Parks as well as symphonic and 'pops' performances in Worcester's Tuckerman and Mechanics Halls and at Worcester’s Hanover Theatre before audiences numbering in the thousands. The Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency dedicated to promoting the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences in the Commonwealth, said about the Massachusetts Symphony that "[f]or years the applicant seems to have interacted with its community in a broad range of ways, leading to the group's well-established track record among its diverse supporters. The quality of [its] music submitted is excellent, as is the organization's administration - which is dedicated to maintaining and extending the group's commitment to diversity."
The annual Duo-Piano Gala Concert each November has featured area pianists Malcolm Halliday, Kallin Johnson, Sima Kustanovich, Dick Odgren, Olga Rogach, Myron Romanul, and Ian Watson playing celebrated classical, jazz and popular music arranged for two, four or six pianists on the Orchestra's restored 1902 Steinway Model "C" concert grand piano along with the Orchestra's modern Steinway Model "B" concert grand piano.

Summer Concert Series
The Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra's admission-free Summer Family Concert Series has been presented each year since 1951. The first week in July each year (for the Fourth of July holiday) features a concert with fireworks at Worcester's East Park (Cristoforo Colombo Park) on Shrewsbury Street. The orchestra presents a program of Independence Holiday patriotic music, celebrated Broadway and other orchestral selections, with the concert culminating in fireworks accompanying Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and Sousa marches.
Other concerts of the series include a “Salute to Disney" and a “Classics to Broadway” concert, each at the Levenson Concert Stage in Worcester’s Institute Park on Salisbury Street.
The Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Holiday Pops Concert on the second Saturday in December of each year, at 8 PM, in Worcester's Mechanics Hall.
A perennial favorite during the holiday season, this concert features classic symphonic works, selections from Broadway musicals, celebrated and festive choral works along with favorite music of the holiday season, complete with dancers and a visit from Santa Claus.
